If x=a,y=b is the solution of the pair of equation xy=2 and x+y=4 find the values of a and b.

Substituting x = a & y = b in the given equation,

we get
a - b = 2 (1)

Adding equation (1) & (2) we get

a + b = 1 (2)

2a = 6

a = 3

substituting a = 3 in (2) we get b = 1
