If $x=a,y=b$ is the solution of the pair of equation $x-y=2$ and $x+y=4$ find the values of $a$ and $b$.

Substituting x = a & y = b in the given equation,

we get

a - b = 2 $\to$ (1)

Adding equation (1) & (2) we get

a + b = 1 $\to$ (2)

$\Rightarrow$ 2a = 6

$\Rightarrow$ a = 3

substituting a = 3 in (2) we get b = 1
