Question

In a longitudinal wave, the density of particles is more at a compression. True or False?

Open in App
Solution

True

A longitudinal wave is the one in which the particles of the medium, vibrate in the direction same as that of the propagation of the wave.
At a point where the particles have come closer to each other, a compression is formed.
At a point where the particles have gone away from each other, a rarefaction is formed.
As a result, the density of the medium is more than original at compression and less than original at rarefaction.
