Solution

FesO4+NaOHFe(OH)2+Na2SO4

6NaCN+Fe(OH)2Na4[Fe(CN)6]Sodium ferrocyanide

3Na4[Fe(CN)6]+4FeCl3Fe4[Fe(CN)6]3+12NaClFerric ferro cyanide(Prussian blue)

Lassaignetest is used for the estimation of nitrogen in an organic compound. Sodium fusion extract is boiled with ferrous sulphate and acidified with sulphuric acid. Sodium cyanide reacts with ferrous sulphate and forms sodium hexacyanoferrate(II). On heating with sulphuric acid, some ferrous is oxidized to ferric hexacyanoferate (II) Fe4[Fe(CN)6]3 which is Prussian blue in colour.
