The columnar epithelium present in the respiratory tract has hair like projections present on their surface, called cilia. Hence, it is called cilliated columnar epithelium. These hair-like projections help trap dust particles from entering the respiratory tract and its flap like movement in one direction helps to eliminate these wastes out of the body along with mucous.
