Question

In what order do inhibition, diffusion and osmosis occur?

Open in App
Solution

A semipermeable membrane is needed for osmosis. So , Osmosis can ocuur where a semipermeable membrane is present .
Consider a solvent is present inside a vessel of semipermeable mmembrane.
A higher concentrated solution is present outside the membrane.
Here first osmosis will take place, that is movement of solvent molecules to solution side.Once this occurs the solvent molecules start to diffuse throughout the solution. This continues till equilibrium is reached.
Once equilibrium is attained inhibition takes place. That is no further movement of molecules.
