In which era reptiles were dominant?
The total span of Earth’s evolution or geological time is basically divided into six eras - azoic, archaeozoic, proterozoic, palaeozoic, mesozoic and cenozoic. The Mesozoic era (about 253 - 67 mya) when reptiles, especially dinosaurs, ruled the world. Mesozoic era is also called the "golden age of reptiles". This era is divided into three periods - Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous. During the Triassic period, the first oviparous prototherians originated, and Earth was covered with forests of conifers, cycads and other Gymnosperms. In the Jurassic period, giant reptiles like dinosaurs and toothed birds like Archaeopteryx dominated Earth. Marsupials too, evolved from prototherians, and the evolution of Gymnosperms was at its peak. The Cretaceous period witnessed the extinction of dinosaurs and primitive birds with the emergence of the first modern birds. Among plants, dicot angiosperms or flowering plants started emerging.
