  • Definition: A map can be defined as an aerial view of some area. The collection of maps in form of books is called an atlas. On the basis of purpose, maps can be broadly categorised as ​
Types of Maps:
  • Political Map- A map which shows the political boundaries. it includes the international and national boundaries (including the demarcation of states, districts, and lower administrative units). ​
  • Physical Map- A map that shows the physical diversities like Plains, mountains, plateaus, and water bodies. With the help of a physical map, we can study the variations in height and depth between various physical features​.
  • Thematic Map- A map that depicts anyone particular theme in map. For example. The pattern of population density, soil type, rainfall pattern, distribution of minerals, industries, roadways, railways, and airways routes.
