$\frac{1}{3} = \frac{1 \times 12}{3 \times 12} = \frac{12}{36}$

$\frac{5}{9} = \frac{5 \times 4}{9 \times 4} = \frac{20}{36}$

So, 5 rational numbers between them are $\frac{13}{36}$ , $\frac{14}{36}$ , $\frac{15}{36}$ , $\frac{16}{36}$ and $\frac{17}{36}$ .
