Question

Is Nitrate $$NO_3 ^-$$ polar or non-polar? Why?

Solution

Polarity is not a property we can properly attribute to ionic species.

Ionic species are formally charged, and the question of polarity, charge separation, is already a done deal.

The Lewis representation of nitrate ion is $$O=N^+(-O^-)_2$$
