Question

Is the concept of latent heat applicable during transformation of gaseous phase to liquid phase and from liquid phase to solid phase?

Open in App
Solution

During transformation of phases, the temperature remains constant. The amount of energy required to change the phase from liquid to vapor and vice-versa is the same. Only the type of energy transfer is different i.e. melting and vaporization are endothermic processes while freezing and condensation are exothermic processes. Hence the concept of latest heat is applicable to these cases.
