Auxins have a very important role in coordination of many growth and behavioral processes in the plant's life cycle and are essential for plant body development. Following are the uses of auxins:
(1) Promotes flowering in case of orchards. Examples: pineapple, litchi, etc.
(2) Induce parthenocarpy in some plants like tomato, cucumber, pepper, etc.
(3) Auxins like IAA, IBA, NAA induce rooting in stem cuttings of various plants.
(4) Auxin like 2,4-D is widely used as a herbicide to kill dicotyledonous weeds and to prepare weed free lawns by gardeners.
(5) Auxins regulate the maturation of fruits on trees of apples, oranges and grape fruit.
