Solution

The correct option is A

1-C , 2-D , 3-A , 4-B

Lactic acid is a naturally occurring acid. Naturally occurring acids are mostly derived from plants, therefore they are called organic acids. E.g., Acetic acid, citric acid, etc. They are present in our food. They can also be prepared artificially. Lactic acid is present in sour milk and yoghurt.

The basicity of the acid is the number of hydrogen ions produced by one molecule of that acid when dissolved in water. Acids can be monobasic, dibasic and tribasic or more depending upon the number of hydrogen ions furnished per molecule.

Acids that furnish only one hydrogen ion per molecule in water are called monobasic acids.E.g., Hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, etc.
HCl H2O H++Cl

Acids that furnish two hydrogen ion per molecule in water are called dibasic acids.E.g., Sulphuric acid, carbonic acid, etc.

H2SO4 H2O 2H++SO24

Acids that furnish three hydrogen ion per molecule in water are called tribasic acids.E.g., Phosphoric acid, phosphorous acid, etc.

H3PO4 H2O 3H++PO34
