Pollen grain is surrounded by a two layered wall. The outer wall is called exine. It is thick and made up of sporopollenin. Exine consists of germ pores where sporopollenin is absent. The inner wall is thin continuous intine which is made up of pectin and cellulose. Pollen grain at maturity possess two cells. Vegetative cell is the larger cell that develops into pollen tube. Smaller one is the generative cell or tube cell, which produces male gametes.
