Emphysema is a condition that involves damage to the walls of the air sacs (alveoli) of the lung. The alveolar sacs and bronchioles may be abnormally distended and the elasticity of walls is reduced.

Pneumonia is due to the infection by the Streptococcus pneumoniae or Diplococcus pneumoniae bacteria mostly. The lungs get filled with fluid and excessive phlegm and the patient finds it difficult to breathe.

Silicosis is an occupational respiratory disorder where, the exposure to silica dust over a long period of time leads to scarring and damage of the lungs.
