Mendelian recombinations are due to________
Independent assortment of genes
The genes for different characters sort independently during gamete production. Different genes independently separate from one another and randomly segregate during gamete formation. So, when the gametes fuse, a new combination of characters can be observed in the coming generation. Thus, recombination of characters is possible only due to independant assortment of gametes.
