Question

Name the force which is a must for sustaining circular motion.

Open in App
Solution

Step1: Circular motion

  1. Circular motion is the movement of an object while rotating along a circular path.
  2. Circular motion can be either uniform or non-uniform.
  3. During uniform circular motion, the angular rate of rotation and speed of the body will be constant while during non-uniform motion the rate of rotation keeps changing.

Step2: Centripetal Force

  1. A centripetal force is that force which makes a body follow a curved path.
  2. Its direction is always perpendicular to the motion of the body and towards the fixed.
  3. Mathematically, Fc=mv2r, where Fc= centripetal force, m=mass, v=velocity and r=radius.

Thus, Centripetal force is a force that is a must for sustaining the circular motion.
