Question

Name two intermolecular forces that exist between HF molecules in liquid state.

Open in App
Solution

(i). Dipole-dipole interactions

(ii). Hydrogen bonding

H-F is a polar covalent molecule in which dipole-dipole interactions exist. Since it contains an electronegative atom, F bonded to H atom, therefore, H-bond exists between its molecules. Due to these H-bonds, -HF molecules exist in a liquid state. Hence, in the liquid state, H-bonds, as well as dipole dipole interactions, exists within HF molecules.
