$\Rightarrow$ Distance covered by walking $=$Total distance between the school and Nandini's house $-$Distance covered by bus

On substituting the values we get:

Distance covered by walking = $\frac{9}{10}-\frac{1}{2}$

$=\frac{(9\times 1)-(1\times 5}{10})$ [ $\because$ L.C.M. of $10$ and $2$ is $10$ ]

$=\frac{9-5}{10}$

$=\frac{4}{10}$

$=\frac{2}{5}$

Therefore, she walked $\frac{2}{5}km$.
