Nitin studies in grade IX. He extends help to his father in managing the shop. One day, Nitin holds a bundle of objects of mass 30kg over his head and walked 30m on a horizontal surface.

(i) How much work is done by Nitin? Justify your answer.

(ii) What values are shown by Nitin?

Step 1: (i) Work done by Nitin

Work is the product of the component of the force in the direction of the displacement and the magnitude of this displacement.

The work done by Nitin is zero as no force acts in the direction of displacement.

In other words, the only force, the weight (mass×gravity) acts vertically downward whereas displacement acts along a horizontal surface making an angle of 90°with force.

W=Fscos90o=0 [Since, cos90°=0]
