Solution

The correct option is B C4H6O6
3.64 g of silver salt gives 2.16 g (or 0.02 mol) of silver.

Thus, the molecular weight of silver salt is 3.640.01=364gmol1.

The molecular weight of dibasic acid is 3642(108)=148gmol1.

100 g of the dibasic acid will contain 8x g of C, x g of H and 16x g of O.

100=8x+x+16x=25x.

x=4.

Thus, 100 g of the dibasic acid will contain 32 g of C, 4 g of H and 64 g of O.

So, 148 g of the dibasic acid will contain 47.4 g of C, 5.9 g of H and 96 g of O.

This corresponds to 4 atoms of C, 6 atoms of H and 6 atoms of O.

Thus, the molecular formula is C4H6O6.

Hence, option B is correct.
