Question

One gram of water at $$80^{0}C$$ is mixed with one gram of ice at $$0^{0}C$$. The resultant temperature is:

A
1000C
loader
B
00C
loader
C
800C
loader
D
400C
loader

Solution

The correct option is D $$0^{0}C$$
Let us assume that the complete ice melts and final temperature is T. Then, by principle of calorimetry,

$$1(1)(80-T)=1(80)+1(0.5)(T-0)$$

$$80-T=80+0.5T$$

$$T={ 0 }^{ 0 }C$$

Hence, all the ice just melts and final temperature is $${ 0 }^{ 0 }C$$.
