Aldehydes are more reactive than ketones towards nucleophilic addition reactions due to the following factors:

1. Aldehydes are less sterically hindered as compared to ketones as the 'R' group is present only on one side
2. Carbonyl group in an aldehyde is more polar than the carbonyl group of ketones as it has +I effect from only one side, whereas in case of ketones the +I effect from either side of carbonyl decreases the bond polarity.
