Question

20 J work is required to stretch a spring through 0.1 m. Find the force constant of the spring. If the spring is further stretched through 0.1m. Calculate work done.

Open in App
Solution

the work requires to stretch a spring is equal to the energy stored in it = 1/2 k x2

where k = spring constant and x = deformation of spring

1/2 * k * (0.1)2 = 20

k = 4000 N/m

If the spring is further stretched through 0.1m then the total displacement becomes equal to 0.2 m

work done = 1/2 k x2 = 1/2 * 4000 * (.2)2 = 80 joules
