A NOTE ON THE WAVE OF DEMOCRACY ENGULFING AFRICA $ THE ARAB WORLD

Open in App
Solution

Hi Anand,
Ghana, one of the first countries in Africa to gain independence was under the colonial rule until 1957.
Kwame Nkrumah, became its first prime minister, and later chose to be the president for lifetime. However, he was overthrown in 1966 by the military. Hence, it could not remain a democracy for too long, and has a mixed record.
In the case of Arab, Saddam Hussein ran a dictatorial government and suppressed any kind of opposition to his rule. Later, the US forces removed Saddam and and fought against Iraq. However, the war was illegal as UN did not permit for it.
Thus, it came out to be a forced democracy.
Hope the answer fulfills your query.
Good Luck!!
