Question

define unit of work?

Open in App
Solution

Work is said to be done by a force when it is responsible for a displacement of a body. Work done is the product of force and displacement (when force and displacement have same direction).

So, if a force of 1 N displaces a body by 1 m then the work done by the force on the body is,

W = 1 N × 1 m = 1 J

‘J’ or Joule is the SI unit of work.

Therefore, 1 J = 1 Nm
