Absorption and adsorption can be distinguished as follows :

AbsorptionAdsorption
It is the phenomenon in which the particles of gas and liquid distributed uniformly throughout the surface of the solid. It is the phenomenon in which the concentration of the particles of the gas and the liquid are more at the surface than in the bulk of the solid.
Particles are distributed uniformly so it is a bulk phenomenon.Concentration of the particles are more at the surface than in the bulk. Therefore it is surface phenomenon.
It occurs at the uniform rate.In the beginning it occurs at the high rate and then rate decrease slowly.
