S.No. MONARCHY DEMOCRACY
1 In monarchy, a country is ruled by a king (monarch) and people are called subjects. In democracy, the country is ruled by the Government and people are called citizens.
2 The position of the monarch is often passed through inheritance within the family. Whereas in democracy, representatives of government are elected by citizens.
3 The monarch has all the political power. In a democratic government, power is derived from the people.
4 The monarch is not restricted by law as he is the one who enacts the law. But in democracy, all citizens including political leader, government official are equal before law as democracy is based on equality and freedom.
5 The various forms of monarchy are hereditary monarchy, absolute monarchy, constitutional monarchy. The different forms of democracy are representative democracy, parliamentary democracy, liberal democracy, constitutional democracy, direct democracy.
