Question

How does a solar panel use the suns rays to create electricity?

Open in App
Solution

Hi Anvay!

The working principle of solar cell (solar panel) is the photovoltaic effect. When light of sufficient frequency fall on the cell, electron- hole pairs are generated. These electron-hole pairs are separated to their majority regions, due to the electric field of the depletion region. These carriers are collected by the contact terminals, giving rise to the photovoltage.

Cheers!!
