How slag produced from the mining causes pollution to the environment?

Slag is a fusible material which is formed by chemical combination of gangue (earthy impurities) which may still be present in the roasted ore during metallurgy.

During this slag formation, some harmful gases are evolved like sulphur dioxide, carbon dioxide. So it becomes a major cause of environmental pollution.
