Question

In my book a picture of ozone hole is given, in that it is written that ozone hole is above antarctica.

But, how it is above antarctica since there are no industries in antarctica and hence no pollotion and no greenhouse gas to trap earth's heat and to convert oxygen to ozone.

Solution

Ozone destruction is due to the chlorine radicals generated from CFCs occur more rapidly on the surface of polar stratospheric clouds than in gas phase. These clouds form more readily in the extreme cold of the poles especially the south pole during winter and hence the ozone holes first formed over Antarctica and are deeper there.
