Mention the components of diffusion membrane of human respiratory system?

Open in App
Solution

Gas exchange between the air within the alveoli and the pulmonary capillaries occurs by diffusion The diffusion membrane (respiratory membrane) consists of thin-walled alveoli. The alveoli increases the surface area for efficient exchange of respiratory gases (carbon-dioxide and oxygen).
The diffusion membrane consists of-
1. Squamous epithelial which lines the alveoli.

2. Endothelial cells lining an adjacent capillary.
3. Fused basal laminae between alveolar and endothelial cells.
