1) Mention the events leading to the formation of solidarity as the new trade union in Poland.

a. In 1980, the workers on Lenin Shipyard went on a strike,in support of a women worker who was unjustly dismissed.

b. The strike grew and spread under Lech Welesa who later became its leader.

c. More demands were raised by the workers, especially demand to form an independent trade union.

d. As the movement spread government was forced to sign 21 point agreement with Walesa , known as the Gdansk agreement .The government agreed to recognize workers right to form trade unions.

e. It was only after this agreement, Solidarity , a new trade Union was formed.
