what is the difference between diffusion and imbibition

Open in App
Solution

Diffusion Imbibition
It can be the movement of any of molecules of either gases or liquids. It is a type of diffusion in which water is absorbed by solids
It depends on many factors like concentration gradient, temperature, permeability of membrane, Solubility, pressure etc It depends upon affinity between adsorbent and liquid being adsorbed.
No need of adsorbant for diffusion to occurAn adsorbant is required for imbibition to occur.
