Solution

Iron in the metallic form are hard but in medicines and supplements iron is present as iron salts and not as iron metal.
Salts have different physical properties as compared to the metal form. Therefore supplements and tablets are not very hard. In the tablets iron has been converted into a suitable compound form which can be easily absorbed by the body.
