Question

why corrosion causes damage to buildings?

Open in App
Solution

The reinforcing steel bars in the concrete structures are prone to corrosion due to temperature, humidity and salt contents in the atomosphere.Corrosion causes expansion of steel reinforcement which develops high tensile stress in the surrounding concrete due to which cracks develop in the concrete resulting in deterioration of the concrete structure. In this way corrosion damages the buildings.
