Question

what is the function of the guard cells in a leaf

Open in App
Solution

Guard cells regulate the opening and closing of the stomata. This regulation is brought about by the movement of water in and out of the guard cells. When water moves into the guard cells, they become flaccid. This causes the outer walls of cells bulge out and vice-versa.
