1) The Marylebone Cricket Club was founded in the year 1787 and in 1788 they published the first revision of laws thus becoming the guardian of cricket’s regulations
2) The MCCs revision of laws brought in a series of changes in the game that occurred in the 2nd half of 18th century.
3) It became common to pitch the ball through the air rather than roll it along the ground. This change gave the bowlers the options of length, deception through air and increased pace.
4) It also opened the new possibilities for spin and swing. The weight of the ball was limited to between 5 ½ to 5 ¾ ounces, and the width of the bat to 4 inches.
5) The first leg before law was published in the year 1774 and third stump became common. By 1780, 3 days had become the length of a major match and it also saw the creation of the first six – seam cricket ball.
6) Many important changes like rule about wide balls, exact circumference of the ball, introduction of boundaries etc were introduced by this revision of laws
