why are convex lenses of large focal lengths used in case of a simple microscope?

Reasons why we use convex lens in microscope are :
1) due to its magnifying property!
2) It converges the rays so that the rays are focused and finally they are made to pass through the retina to form the image.
3)It is even used to reduce chromatic aberration.
