J. volunteers to pack because he wants to boss over George and Harris. He wants to superintend. George and Harris doesn't show much faith in his ability to pack. Once J. packs and straps the bag, Harris asks if he is not going to put the boots in; it turns out that J. has forgotten them. On this incident, George laughs. When he finishes packing, George asks if he has put the soap in. J. straps the bag without caring about the soap, but he finds that he has packed his tobacco pouch inside it. Owing to all this confusion, rest of the packing is left to George and Harris.
