why does blood not clot inside the body? what happens if a clot develops in the body ?

Open in App
Solution

Blood doesn't clot inside the body due to the presence of naturally-occurring anticoagulant heparin, secreted by basophils and mast cells. Heparin released in the blood vessels prevents blood from clotting.

If a clot is formed in body then it may lead to various health disorders such as thrombosis or stroke. A clot will hinder in the normal blood flow resulting in swelling, reddishness and pain. If a clot is formed in heart then it’s fatal as heart pumps blood to the rest of the body parts. Thrombosis is the condition associated with excessive clot formation in body. It’s still treatable when the clot is localized but becomes fatal when the clot moves and starts spreading throughout the body which is clinically known as embolism.
