Question

Why does light refract?

Why does light bends on refraction?

Open in App
Solution

Whenever light travels from one medium to another, refraction takes place at the interface of the two mediums. This happens because velocity of light is different in different medium. and there is a bending of light due to refraction. The extent of bending is dependent on the refractive index of the material and the wavelength of light. A prism uses this principle and disperses light.
