Why gas expands more than solids or liquids?

Open in App
Solution

Liquids expand more than solids for the same rise in temperature
The molecules in a gas are not bound to each other. Therefore, on heating the vibrations of molecules increases and the average distance between the molecules of a gas increases considerably as compared to liquids and solids. Due to this, gas expands more than solids or liquids.
