Question

why unsaturated carbon compounds have high amount of carbon than saturated compounds?

Open in App
Solution

Unsaturated compounds are formed by multiple bonds ( double and triple) between two or more carbon atoms in a carbon chain. So, the number of hydrogen atoms in unsaturated compounds is less as the valency of carbon is satisfied by multiple bonds.Hence, the ratio of carbon to hydrogen is less in unsaturated compounds as compared to saturated compounds. In other words, amount of carbon as compared to hydrogen is more in unsaturated compounds.
