Deficiency of water or presence of toxic chemicals
Your Answer
D
None of these

Solution

The correct option is D Any type of unfavorable conditions
During unfavorable conditions, the cell becomes non-motile by withdrawing its flagella and then its protoplasmic content. It then divides into 2, 4 or 8 daughter protoplasts. But the daughter protoplast fails to develop their flagella. So they cannot escape out. Instead of releasing out, the protoplast divides into small daughter protoplast. As the number of cells is increased the parent cell gelatinized and increases its circumference. As a result, a certain number of cells are embedded within parent cell wall and this is called palmella stage. When the condition becomes favorable, each daughter protoplast is converted into zoospore and is then released into the environment, where it forms a new organism. It is seen in some flagellated green algae or plantlike flagellates.
