place A and B are 100 km apart on a highway. One car starts from A and another car from A at the same time at different speeds . If the cars travel in the same direction, they meet in 5 hours . If they travel towards each other, speeds of the two cars?

Let he speed of the car which started from place A = x km Let speed of the car which started from place B = y km Distance travelled by first car in 5 hours = 5 x km and in 1 h = x km distance travelled by sceond car in 5 hour = 5 y km and in 1 h = y km From the the problem When the car travelled in same direction
$5x-5y=100\Rightarrow x-y=\mathrm{20...}\left(1\right)$
When the car travelled toward each other x + y = 100 ....(2)
(1+) (2) we get
$2x=120\Rightarrow =\frac{120}{2}=60kmph$
Substitute x value in (1)
$60-y=20\Rightarrow y=60-20=40kmph$
$\therefore$ The speed of the cars are 60 kmph and 40 kmph
