Solution

Charcoal is a form of carbon that is non-metal. When non-metal reacts with air, it forms a non-metallic oxide which is acidic in nature. Thus, when charcoal burns in the air it forms an acidic oxide called carbon dioxide.
The nature of gas can be found by adding water to the gas in the test tube and then put some blue litmus solution in the test tube. If the blue litmus solution turns red, it means that the gas is acidic in nature.
