Solution

The correct option is D 1 and 2 only

Explanation:

Soil conservation is a methodology to maintain soil fertility, prevent soil erosion and exhaustion, and improve the degraded condition of the soil. Following are some of the measures taken for conserving soils.

  • shifting cultivation is a faulty method of agriculture that, is practiced by tribal people in some parts of India. In this method, a piece of forest land is cleared by felling and burning of trees and crops grown. The removal of forest cover leads to the exposure of the soil to rains and sun which results in heavy loss of topsoil.
  • Construction of dams: Rivers cause soil erosion. Dams are built in the upper course of rivers to control the erosion of soil.
  • Avoiding monocultural crop practices: monoculture means cultivating one crop, usually in an intensive manner and on a very large scale. Growing the same crops a year in the year depletes the soil nutrient and making it infertile and exhausted.
  • Afforestation: Planting more trees and increasing the area under forests is the best way to conserve the soil.
