Solution

The correct option is A
1 only
Explanation:

Statement 1 is correct: Indian philosophy consists of the Astika (orthodox) philosophical traditions , those that accept the Vedas as an authoritative, important source of knowledge, like Nyaya, Samkhya, etc as well as Nastika tradition, those who deny all the respective definitions of āstika like Buddhism and Jainism.

Statement 2 is incorrect: The Lokāyata tradition has historically been used to denote the philosophical school of Indian Materialism.

Statement 3 is incorrect: The Indian philosophical traditions believe in both Moksha and Nirvana (Buddhism strongly believes in Liberation or Nirvana).
Explainer’s perspective :
The students are advised to clearly understand the keyword in the questions to avoid falling into any conceptual traps. They must be aware about the difference between Indian Philosophy and Hindu Philosophy. Indian philosophy is very wide and includes Buddhism which is a well known atheistic sect.
In statement 2 “no” can be seen as an extreme statement as it has already been mentioned that Indian Philosophy is very wide. We can solve this by considering an example of materialist tradition in Indian Philosophy - The LOKAYATA Philosophy.
Similarly in statement 3 Nirvana is a very well known tradition in Buddhism. Hence, statement 2 and 3 are wrong leaving option (a) as the answer.
