Given, mean of 100 observations is 50.
Here, n = 100 and ¯x=50
Then, mean=ni=1xin
1100×100i=1xi=50100i=1xi=5000(i)
Now, the observation 50 is replaced by 150, then (i) becomes,
100i=1xi=500050+150=5100
Resulting mean =100i=1xi100=5100100=51
Hence, the resulting mean is 51.
