Derive the unit a force using the second law of motion. A force of 5 N produces an acceleration of $8 m s^{- 2}$ on a mass $m_{1}$ and an acceleration of $24 m s^{- 2}$ on mass $m_{2}$ . What acceleration would the same force provide if both the masses are tired together?

$F = m a = k g m s^{2}$

This unit is also called Newton. Its symbol is N.

$m_{1} = \frac{F}{a_{1}} = \frac{5}{8} k g$

$m_{2} = \frac{F}{a_{2}} = \frac{5}{24} k g$

$M = \frac{5}{8} + \frac{5}{24} k g = \frac{5}{6} k g$

Acceleration produced in M,

$a = \frac{F}{M} = \frac{5}{\frac{5}{6}} = 6 m s^{- 2}$
